The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Carabinieri Corps have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start a cooperation in the field of training of the respective personnel destined to serve in the Italian diplomatic-consular network.
The protocol was signed this afternoon in Rome, at the General Command of the Carabinieri, by the Secretary-General of the MAECI, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, and the General Commander Gen. C.A. Giovanni Nistri.
The agreement foresees, on the one hand, the organisation by the Corps of training modules, called Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT), for the benefit of the MAECI staff leaving for our most at-risk Embassies. The initiative aims to provide basic knowledge useful to deal with dangerous situations (such as attacks, kidnappings) and to orientate in challenging environments (such as first aid knowledge, operation of radios and satellite telephones).
On the other hand, MAECI will organise information seminars on the structure and functioning of diplomatic and consular representations in favour of the Carabinieri personnel responsible for guaranteeing the security of our foreign sites.
