The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, will be in Lisbon today and tomorrow to attend the informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union (Gymnich)

The first working session, dedicated to EU-Africa relations will be an opportunity for the ministers to reflect on strengthening the political and economic partnership with the countries of the African continent.

The agenda will also include a discussion on the unresolved conflicts in the Eastern Neighbourhood and on the instruments available to the EU to play a positive role in facilitating the resolution of these crises. The discussion will be carried out in coordination with the international partners and in complete synergy with the negotiations within the OSCE.

The concluding Gymnich session will focus on the EU’s strategic vision for the Indo-Pacific and High Representative Borrell’s mission to South-East Asia in a few days.

Ministers will also participate in a working dinner with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, where recent developments in the Middle East situation will be discussed.

In parallel, Minister Di Maio will have bilateral talks with his Portuguese counterpart, Augusto Santos Silva, with Jordanian Foreign Minister Safadi and the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi.
