ANNOUNCEMENT FOR EDITORS-IN-CHIEF: RECALL – Meeting with Scientific Attachés (Foreign Ministry Rome, 18-19 July 2013)

On Thursday 18 July Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino will open a two-day meeting of Scientific Attachés at the foreign ministry in Rome. The meeting will take place within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to support Italy’s economic growth by strengthening the interaction between the scientific research sector and the business world.


The purpose of the meeting is to study prospects for the internationalization of Italian universities’ and research centres, and how scientific research could be better employed to ensure the greater dissemination and rootedness of Italian businesses abroad.

18 July:


9:30-10:30 – Inaugural session to be opened by Minister Bonino. Participants will include Minister for Education, Universities and Research Maria Chiara Carrozza, President of the National Research Council Prof. Luigi Nicolais, Chairman of the Confindustria Technical Committee Paolo Zegna and President of the CRUI Foundation Prof. Marco Mancini.


10:45-12:00 – Session I: “The network of scientific attachés at the service of Italian research bodies”. Speakers: President of the Italian Space Agency Eng. Enrico Saggese, President of the National Astrophysics Institute Prof. Giovanni Bignami, President of the Istituto Superiore Sanità Dott. Fabrizio Oleari, President of Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste Prof. Carlo Rizzuto, and CEO of Novamont Catia Bastioli.


12:00-13:30 – Session II: “The role of scientific attachés in supporting the internationalisation of the Italian university system”. Speakers: Vice President of the CRUI Foundation Prof. Giovanni Puglisi, Rector of the Milan Polytechnic Institute Prof. Giovanni Azzone, Rector of the Turin Polytechnic Institute Prof. Marco Gilli, Rector-elect of Bicocca Milano Prof. Maria Cristina Messa and Rector of the University of Bergamo Prof. Stefano Paleari.


Journalists and camera operators interested in covering the event are asked to apply for accreditation by completing the interactive form available at the link http://mae.accreditationsystem.info/ITA/Indice.asp to which all required documentation can be attached in digital format. If in exceptional cases it is not possible to complete the online accreditation procedure, applications in writing on company letterhead and signed by the director of the organisation concerned—indicating name, surname, date and place of birth, number of a valid ID document and qualification—should be sent by fax to the Press Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (tel. 063691.3432 fax 06.3691.2122).


Accredited members of the press will be admitted at the main entrance to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – left side – on 18 July between 8:30 and 9:00 (and not at the rear entrance as previously announced).
