On 9 October the Farnesina will host the conference “Transparency and the rule of law as pre-conditions of equitable and sustainable development”, organised by the European Commission for Democracy through Law (“Venice Commission”) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The conference coincides with the Commission’s 100th session to be held in Rome this year from 9 to 11 October.
Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Senator Benedetto Della Vedova will speak at the opening of the sessions at 9:30, along with Farnesina Secretary-General Ambassador Michele Valensise and President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio. Academic and institutional legal experts from various countries will form two panels, one to discuss transparency and support for democratic processes as a condition for good governance; the second on sustainable development and the rule of law, focusing on the defence of human rights in social and economic spheres. Under-Secretary Della Vedova will speak at the closing of the sessions at 18:00.
