The Farnesina is holding a conference called “New Challenges in Combating Homophobia” on May 20, at 4 p.m.. The event has been organised by the Interministerial Committee for Human Rights (CIDU), with the cooperation of the
European Union’s Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the National Anti- Racial Discrimination Office (UNAR) and the Equal Opportunities Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
The conference will be opened by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senator Benedetto Della Vedova, and will be attended by dignitaries of the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of other ministries and civil society organisations.
The Conference will be made up of two panels:
The first panel, will be chaired by the president of CIDU, Gianludovico de Martino, and will focus on the presentation of the Report drafted by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency of LGBTI rights in Europe;
The second panel will be chaired by Laura Guercio, deputy member of the FRA Management Board. It will focus on the assessment of the progress of the recommendations accepted by Italy during the Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2015, which is part of the Periodical Universal Review, second cycle, in the light of the law on civil partnerships, recently approved by the Italian Senate.
