On Monday 10 April, from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Farnesina will host the conference “Migration and Development”, organised by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency, which will open with remarks by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro.
The main topics of the conference and the priority objectives of the Italian Cooperation Agency will be eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities, improving peoples’ living conditions, and promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
The first part of the conference will be chaired and moderated by the Director General of Development Cooperation, Pietro Sebastiani. The speakers invited include Giampiero Gramaglia, who will deliver a presentation on the connection between development and migration, and will be followed by Paola Alvarez, from the International Migration Organization, and Luigi Maria Vignali, Director General of Migration Policies and Visas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who will focus on the Fund for Africa as being instrumental to partnerships on migration issues.
The Director of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS), Laura Frigenti, will chair the second part of the conference, which will focus on testimonies from civil society and on the success stories involving the private sector, especially in key aspects in the fight against the deep-set causes of migration such as agriculture, water resources and energy.
