PRESS ACCREDITATION NOTICE – Conference “Against Traffic Light Labelling and Protectionism” (Farnesina, 21 April 2017)

On Friday 21 April 2017, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.,  the Farnesina will host the Conference “Against Traffic Light Labelling and Protectionism”. The conference will focus on the protection of Made in Italy agrifood production and the importance of raising awareness on health and nutritional facts.

“Italy’s agrifood industry represents one of the major features of Made in Italy production across the world. For this reason, and to ensure the dissemination of correct information and the protection of consumers’ health, Italy is against the ‘traffic light labeling sytems’ of food products, as it jeopardises some of its major products,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano. Minister Alfano, alongside other ministries, defended the Italian stance “to protect the Mediterranean diet and the Italian agrifood sector in the world, with a strong commitment to countering any form of protectionism.”

The event will focus on these issues and take place on 21 April at the Farnesina. The conference will be introduced and chaired by the Director General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation, Vincenzo De Luca. Minister Alfano will deliver the opening address.

The event will continue with presentations by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies, Maurizio Martina, the Minister of Health, Beatrice Lorenzin, the Undersecretary of State for Economic Development, Ivan Scalfarotto, the President of Federalimentari, Luigi Pio Scordamaglia, the vice president of Coldiretti, Mauro Tonello, and a representative of Agrinsieme.
