Press accreditation notice – “The 10th Anniversary of the Bolzano/Bozen Recommendations on National Minorities in Inter-State Relations: New Challenges and Lessons Learned” (Udine, 16 July 2018)

Within the framework of the Italian Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), an international conference on national minorities in inter-State relations will be held at Palazzo d’Aronco, in Udine, on 16 July 2018 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the “Bolzano/Bozen Recommendations” that the OSCE presented in 2008 as the guidelines for the treatment of national minorities in international relations.

Ten years after the signing of the document, the Conference will take stock of the experience and best practices acquired in the 57 Participating States of the OSCE and will offer an open forum of debate among their representatives on how to address the concerns over national minorities crossing borders while at the same time promoting peaceful and good relations with neighbours.

    

The Conference, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Municipality and University of Udine and the Mitteleuropa Cultural Association, will open with remarks by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Lamberto Zannier.

High Commissioner Lamberto Zannier’s official greetings will be followed with a welcome by the Governor of the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, and by Ambassador Vinicio Mati, Coordinator of the Italian OSCE Chairmanship, who will be followed by the introductory remarks by the Conference’s guest of honour, former Slovenian President, Danilo Türk. The Conference will be attended by numerous ambassadors and representatives of the OSCE Participating States, and the members of international organisations and of the world of academia and research.

The event is open to the media from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and schedules a media opportunity with keynote speakers from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
