On Wednesday, 17 March 2021, at 10:00, there will be the presentation event, in virtual format, of the initiatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to celebrate the seventh centenary of the death of Dante Alighieri.
The Foreign Ministry is taking part in the celebrations with a number of initiatives around the world, involving the network of diplomatic missions and Italian Cultural Institutes abroad.
The programme, which kicks off in March with Dante Day (25 March), will last until the 21st Week of the Italian Language in the World (18-24 October), which this year too is dedicated to the Poet (“Dante, the Italian”).
The presentation event of the Dante celebrations around the world will be opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, followed by the contribution of the Director General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Enzo Angeloni.
Participants will also include representatives of the main institutions involved in the Year of Dante, including Andrea Ricciardi, President of the Dante Alighieri Society; Claudio Marazzini, President of the Accademia della Crusca; Angelo Piero Cappello Director of the Centre for Books and Reading (Ministry of Culture); Carlo Ossola, President of the Dante Celebrations Committee. The event will be moderated by Lucilla Pizzoli, professor of Italian linguistics.
The events-packed programme includes visual arts exhibitions, concerts, live performances, literature workshops, readings, podcasts and an app.
More than 500 initiatives in over 100 venues: a broad and varied range of activities involving not only traditional tools, but also cutting-edge technologies to keep up with the times and respond to the sensitivity of the new generations.
