2023 Conference of Science and Space Experts

(Padua, 6-7 March 2023)

 

To have access to the Conference, you must register no later than today, Friday 3 March 2023, by e-mail to accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 8573 or 3078), following the instructions below.

On Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 March 2023, the 2023 Conference of Science and Space Experts entitled “La diplomzia scientifica al servizio della crescita dell’Italia” (Science Diplomacy for Italy’s Growth) will be held at the University of Padua.

The initiative is aimed at promoting the growing role played by the scientific and technological research sector to increase the competitiveness of Italy, highlighting the Government’s commitment to promoting Italian innovation in the world, also in support of Italian companies.

The event will also be live streamed on the YouTube channel of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Journalists, photographers and cameramen will be able to attend in person.

Monday 6 March at Palazzo Bo, in the Aula Magna of the University

Conference programme:

– from 10.30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: the event “Scienza e innovazione: non è una questione di genere” (Science and innovation: it is not a gender issue), a round-table discussion on the role of women in science, opened by the Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Giorgio Silli, and moderated by the journalist of the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Giovanni Caprara.

Speeches by Amalia Ercoli Finzi, an aerospace engineer; Antonella Viola, Unipod Professor of immunology and science populariser; Chiara Montanari, the first Italian expedition leader in Antarctica;Cinzia Zuffada, President of the Italian Scientists and Scholars of North America Foundation (ISSNAF), will follow the event;

–at 12 p.m.: Ceremony for awarding the “Science, She Says!” prize to five female researchers ‘under 40’ from as many areas of the world;

– from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: institutional greetings, introduced by the Director General for Promotion of the Italian Economic System, Lorenzo Angeloni, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, the Rector of the University of Padua, Daniela Mapelli, and Astronaut Luca Parmitano (by video-message);

Then Minister Tajani will award the “Premio Farnesina” and the prixe “L’innovazione che parla italiana”;

– from 4.15 p.m. to 5.45 p.m.: the round-table discussion entitled“Spazio, la nuova frontiera dell’internazionalizzazione”(Space, the new frontier of internationalisation), moderated by journalist Giovanni Caprara, with the participation of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli; 

following a video message from Giorgio Saccoccia, President of the Italian Space Agency, other speakers will also take the floor: Marco Tavani, President of the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics; Elena Grifoni Winters, Head of the Space and Aerospace Policies Office at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM); Erasmo Carrera, President of the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA); Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of the Space Economy Evolution Lab, SDA Bocconi; and Cristina Leone, President of CTNA-National Aerospace Technology Cluster.

Tuesday 7 March at Palazzo Liviano, Sala dei Giganti

Conference programme:

– from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.: the round –able discussion “La Ricerca motore della competitività del Sistema Paese” (Research as the engine driving the competitiveness of the Italian Economic System), moderated by Giovanni Caprara. Speakers will include: Biodiversity – Maria Chiara Carrozza, President of the Italy’s National Research Council; Health – Giuseppe Ippolito, Director General, Ministry of Health; Big Data – Francesco Ubertini, President of the CINECA Interuniversity Consortium; Strategic Infrastructure – Ettore Sequi, Head of the Italian delegation to the Board of Government Representatives Einstein Telescope; The Trieste district – Caterina Petrillo, President of Area Science Park;

– speech by the Minister of Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini;

 from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.: the round-table discussion “La risposta dell’innovazione italiana alle nuove sfide globali” (Italy’s innovation response to the new global challenges), moderated by Giovanni Caprara. Speakers will include: Robotics – Giorgio Metta, Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Technology; Energy – Francesca Zarri, Director of Technology, R&D and Digital, Eni; Life science – Marco Baccanti, DG ENEA Tech and Biomedical; Artificial Intelligence – Rita Cucchiara, Director of AI Research and Innovation Center, UNIMORE; Computer Science – Giorgio Ventre, Apple Developer Academy, Naples.

Journalists, photographers and cameramen interested in covering the Conference may apply for accreditation by sending their request by Friday 3 March 2023 to the following e-mail address accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. 06 3691 3432 – 8573 or 3078), attaching the following:

For representatives of the Italian press:

  • copy of an identity document;
  • letter of assignment from the newspaper of affiliation or – in the absence of the latter – copy of professional identity card.

For representatives of foreign press organisations, not accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • copy of an identity document;
  • letter from the newspaper of affiliation;
  • Verbal note of the Embassy in Rome of the country of the press organisation represented

For representatives of foreign press already accredited at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request must be sent with a copy of an identity document attached.

Please note in advance that on the days of the event (6 and 7 March) no new accreditation requests will be accepted, unless in case of unexpected replacements.

Press badges may be collected (in person, upon presentation of a valid identity document) at the Press Accreditation Desk as follows:

  • from 1.45 p.m. to 2.30 p.m.      (for photographers and cameramen – for events from 3 p.m. to 5.45 p.m.)
  • from 8.30 a.m. to 4.15 p.m.      (for journalists)

TUESDAY 7 MARCH
