PRESS ACCREDITATION NOTE
SDG 16 CONFERENCE
ROME 30 May – 1 June 2023
From 30 May to 1 June, the 4th Edition of the Global Conference on the Status of Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16, which aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, will be held at the Farnesina – in the International Conference Hall.
The event, entitled ”SDG 16 as a compass for navigating intersecting crises”, is organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
The Conference represents the most relevant moment of in-depth analysis on one of the most qualifying and transversal Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. By organising the Conference, Italy has gained substantial leadership in its advancement. The results of the Conference will contribute to the preparations and resolutions of the intergovernmental meetings on the 2030 Agenda in the coming months, including the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July and the SDG Summit in September.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, will open the 30 May session with an introductory speech.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani will open the 31 May plenary session at 9:30 a.m. The session, entitled “Promoting participatory decision making to accelerate transformative action: food systems and climate change” will be dedicated to two major challenges of our time – food security and climate change – and the best practices of participatory governance that have been implemented to address them. FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain will also participate.
The session will be streamed live on the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation YouTube channel.
