Italian Chamber Orchestra ‘I Solisti Veneti’ hold a concert in Washington DC to celebrate Italy’s Liberation Day
Washington D.C. 25 April, 2018 – Famous Italian Chamber Orchestra, “I Solisti Veneti”, performed in Washington D. C. to celebrate Italy’s Liberation Day. Sixteen years after playing at the inauguration of the Italian Embassy, “I Solisti Veneti” played before an audience of 350 guests in the embassy hall.
Nine musicians, under the direction of Maestro Claudio Scimone, paid tribute to Italian creativity and excellence. The programme featured Vivaldi, Salieri, Paganini, Rossini, and contemporary Italian composers, Piovani and Morricone.The European Parliament has said the orchestra was an “extraordinary promoter of culture beyond frontiers”. “I Solisti Veneti” are not only an ensemble of world-level musicians, they are also artists who study and promote Venice’s musical heritage through a host of programmes for students of all ages. The orchestra has performed hundreds of works from Italy’s musical heritage, which were previously unknown, revealing to the public several great composers from the past.”I Solisti Veneti” are the heirs of the great Venetian school of string instruments. The orchestra, which was founded by Claudio Scimone in 1959, has become world-famous and praised by critics and the public. “I Solisti Veneti” have performed in more than 6,000 concerts across the world and recorded more than 350 CDs and DVDs.Ambassador Armando Varricchio said: “Today is Liberation Day, and on this day we wish to remember the key contribution made by the United States to the liberation of our country and its reconstruction after the terrible years of civil war and occupation, through the music played by one of Italy’s outstanding orchestras.”The concert, which was promoted by the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington, was made possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the contribution of Fidia Holding S.p.A., a private investment company.
