On Friday, 14 September, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra opened the exhibition ‘Flowers at Sea’ by Bruna Esposito, presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Lisbon. It is the first time that the Rome-born artist’s artworks are displayed in Portugal in an exhibition curated by Enzo De Leonibus. The exhibition is part of the contemporary art programme designed by the Italian Cultural Institute and is a preview of the programme for the First Edition of the Italian Contemporary Art Day, which is coordinated by the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and is scheduled for 13 October.
Bruna Esposito wrote: “There is nothing that represents beauty better than flowers; nothing more primordial than trying to lay them out to highlight their beauty according to one’s taste. On the one hand, there is the original prime and simple gesture to bring beauty within oneself, render it in space, for one’s soul and for others; on the other hand, there is the sea and its immensity. Today our Sea, the Mediterranean, is a vase full of tragedies and conflicts. Perhaps it is my attempt to not close my eyes but keep them wide open to look at anguish in the face without however loosing sight of what is beautiful and, thanks to flowers and the sea, always will be.”
