At the inauguration of the 26th edition of the International Trade Fair in Kampala (UGITF), the Italian pavilion was awarded the prize of “best national pavilion”. The Trade Fair, which is organised by the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA), is one of the most important promotional events in East Africa and represents a great business opportunity for participating companies. The theme of the 2018 edition, which records the participation of almost one thousand exhibitors from 28 Countries, is “Enhancing Value Addition through Industrialization”.
The Italy Pavilion was set up by the National Institute for Foreign Trade– ITA/ICE (Regional Office of Addis Ababa), in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Kampala and was inaugurated by the Italian Ambassador in Uganda, Domenico Fornara. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Ambassador said: “Experiences such as this show the key importance of the support of Italy Inc. (the MAECI, the Embassies, the ICE Agency and trade associations) especially in Countries like Uganda, which are not easily or immediately understood by our small and medium-sized enterprises.” Present at the inauguration were also the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija, and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Amelia Kyambadde.
