OSCE: global security in the digital era and its Asian partners

On 2 and 3 September, Italy, as the Chairman of the OSCE Asian Contact Group, is co-chairing with Japan the Tokyo Conference “How to Achieve Comprehensive Security in the Digital Era: The Perspectives of the OSCE and its Asian Partners”. The event will be attended by representatives of the 57 OSCE Participating States and of the 11 Partner Countries, in addition to members of the OSCE Secretariat.

The Tokyo Conference winds up the Italian Chairmanship of the OSCE Asian Contact Group which includes, in addition to Japan, also Afghanistan, Australia, South Korea and Thailand. Italy’s Chairmanship of the OSCE Asian Contact Group followed its Chairmanship of the OSCE, which our Country held in 2018.

In order to bank on the Asian Partners’ interest in strengthening their dialogue with the OSCE in developing regional security and cooperation models, our Chairmanship of the OSCE Asian Contact Group built its agenda around the issues of transnational threats, economic and environmental sustainability and the challenges posed by technological development to the principle of rule of law and to the protection of fundamental human rights.
