On the occasion of the Eighth Day of Italian Research in the World, a Round Table Discussion co-organised by the Embassy in Tashkent and the Uzbek Ministry of University and Research was held at the National University of Samarkand, dedicated to the theme “Uzbekistan and Italy: New Horizons of Scientific Cooperation”. The event was chaired by the Minister of Higher Studies, Science and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov, and Italian Ambassador Papadia de Bottini, and was attended by Rectors from 17 Uzbek universities and 7 Italian universities.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Alisher Shukurov, also spoke at the round-table discussion, emphasising the importance of the transfer of knowledge and skills in the agro-technological sector and in the training of local technicians, an area in which Italian universities were indicated as partners of excellence.

The Italian universities were represented at the event by Valerio De Cesaris, Rector of the University for Foreigners of Perugia; Stefano Ubertini, Rector of the Tuscia University; Massimiliano Fiorucci, Rector of the University Roma Tre; Filippo Giorgi, Pro-Rector of the University of Pisa; Antonio Marcomini, Pro-Rector of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice; Marco Ragazzi, Pro-Rector of the University of Trento; Olimjon Tuychiev, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin (Tashkent branch).

On the Uzbek side, there were representatives from numerous universities including Rustam Khalmuradov, National University of Samarkand; Inom Madjidov, National University of Uzbekistan; Islambek Rustambekov, National University of Law of Tashkent; Jasur Rizaev, National University of Medicine of Samarkand; Obidjom Kodirov, Vice-Rector of the University of Geology; Zebo Babakhanova, Internationalisation Manager of the Chemical-Technological Institute of Tashkent.

Cooperation agreements were signed between the University of Pisa and the Samarkand University of Medicine, for joint initiatives in the field of medical training and scientific research, and an agreement between the Tuscia University and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan aimed at granting scholarships for Uzbek students. Further agreements were concluded between the University Roma Tre and the University of Law of Tashkent, for research and exchange projects in the legal and social science sectors, and between the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the Chemical-Technological Institute of Samarkand, for cooperation in the chemical and environmental sectors.
