Call for proposals for the “Italia in mostra” contest of ideas

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Directorate General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation, in association with RO.ME – Museum Exhibition, presents the first edition of “Italia IN Mostra”, a contest of ideas aimed at acquiring projects for exhibitions aimed at promoting Italian cultural heritage abroad, to be presented across the overseas network of Italian Cultural Institutes.

The call for proposals was launched at the second edition of RO.ME – Museum Exhibition (https://romemuseumexhibition.com), the international expo dedicated to museums and cultural community spaces and locations.

“Italia IN Mostra” falls within the scope of the “Italian Way of Life” integrated promotion campaign and aims to foster and promote the creation of new exhibition projects on Italian culture and heritage in the broadest possible sense. The contest is subdivided into two sections: the first is linked to promoting one or more aspects of Italy’s tangible cultural property in the area of traditional visual arts and architecture (figurative arts, sculpture, photography, painting, ceramics, etc.); the second focuses on promoting Italy’s intangible heritage, with reference therefore to Italy’s history, language, innovation, science, cinema, gastronomy and popular traditions.

The winners of each section will be awarded a €10,000 prize; the two exhibition projects selected will be implemented and included in the programme that will be presented in several locations of the network of Italian Cultural Institutes starting from 2021.

“Cultural heritage is a key component of the “Italian Way of Life” – said Roberto Vellano, General Director for the promotion of Italian culture and language at the opening of the

RO.ME Museum Exhibition. “This initiative has a dual goal: on the one hand, we want to stimulate the creativity and designing capacity of all those who work in the area of culture and museums, encouraging them to collaborate according to a networking model in designing exhibition projects; on the other hand, we aim to create an ever-tighter connection between institutions and museum professionals with the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad. We all work towards the same goal: to protect and leverage our extremely rich cultural heritage in Italy and abroad.”

The call for proposals is open to single individuals or associations such as museums, public agencies and non-profit making private entities, university institutions, foundations, companies and associations of enterprises (including cooperatives of enterprises), as well as officially established committees and non-profit cultural associations.

In the light of the provisions of Legislative Decree 18/2020, the deadline for sending projects, initially scheduled for noon on 28 February 2020, is postponed until noon on 21 April 2020. The methods for sending and receiving envelopes remain the same. It should be noted that the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s courier office currently has a reduced opening hours. Correspondence is accepted from Monday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 12 noon.
