Serbia: exhibition “Inspired by Italy” in Novi Sad

The Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad, in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade and under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, presents today an exhibition entitled “Inspired by Italy” dedicated to Serbian-Italian cultural and artistic ties.

The exhibition includes a selection of artworks by Aksentije Marodić, Jeftimije Popović, Jovan Popović, Pavle Simić, Naum Andrić and other artists from the collections of the Matica Srpska Gallery, who visually present the Italian “experiences” of Serbian painters in the artistic tradition and practice of the 19th century. In this sense, the aim of the exhibition is to draw attention to Italian models in Serbian art.

Thanks to the artworks preserved in the collection of the Galleria Matica Srpska, it will be possible to know the Italian art in an indirect way, but also to appreciate how it influenced and inspired the formation of Serbian artists, both those who studied in Italy and those who studied from the observation of works of art encountered in European cities.

The exhibition will remain open until May 3rd 2020.
