Minsk: learning Italian diction by reading Dante

Dante Alighieri will be the protagonist of the 21st edition of the Italian Language Week in Minsk with the lessons-performance of Prof. Matteo Spiazzi from the University of Verona. Prof. Spiazzi will involve young students of Italian from the Belarusian universities in a training workshop dedicated to diction, correct pronunciation and reading aloud 3 Cantos of the Inferno from the Divine Comedy.

At the end of the cycle of lessons, there will be a theatrical performance with the Academy of Dramatic Art of Minsk students. The programme of events for the Week also includes the traditional Universiade of Italian Language, now in its fourth edition, a competition with prizes also involving students of Italian from the countries of the Region. Music and cinema complete the framework of the initiatives with a concert dedicated to Paganini performed by the Minsk Philharmonic Orchestra with guest of honour the young Italian soloist Floriana Franchina, and the screening of three successful Italian films: “La pazza gioia” by Paolo Virzì, “Smetto quando voglio” by Sydney Sibilia and “Cinema Paradiso” by Giuseppe Tornatore. “I am glad that Italian-speaking students and fans of Italy can enjoy such a wide-ranging cultural programme,” said the Italian Ambassador to Minsk, Mario Baldi. “It will be an extraordinary journey to discover the great wealth of Italian culture”.
