On 3ed December, the Italian Embassy in Berlin hosted an Artist Talk with Rosa Barba. The artist’s exhibition, “In a Perpetual Now”, was chosen by the Director of the Neue Nationalgalerie, Joachim Jäger, to reopen the museum after six years of restoration.
The initiative is part of the 17th “Giornata del Contemporaneo” (Contemporary Day), dedicated this year to the theme of the performative, promoted by AMACI (Association of Contemporary Art Museums in Italy) in collaboration with MAECI and Ministry of Culture.
“We thought – commented Ambassador Armando Varricchio – that Rosa Barba was a perfect testimonial for this theme. Not only does she represent a strong and long-standing link between Italy and Germany, but her artistic work brings together texts, sounds and images to create a narrative of its own”.
The urgent need to rethink the dynamics of interaction with the public through the sharing of space, the architecture of Berlin as inspiration, and the interaction of art with contemporary social issues, such as climate change or social divides, are some of the themes explored during the Embassy event.
Among the guests were representatives of prestigious cultural institutions, such as Stephanie Rosenthal, Director of Martin Gropius Bau; Svenja Gräfin von Reichenbach, Director of Palais Populaire; Elke Giffeler, Director of the Hoffmann Collection; Rosa von der Schulenburg, Director of the Art Collection of the Akademie der Künste; curators, gallery owners and collectors.
