“Shabbat Shalom”, an online concert of the duo Delilah Gutman and Refael Negri, will be held today, 27 January, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, following an initiative of the Italian Cultural Institute in Istanbul and CIDIM (Italian National Committee of Music).
“Shabbat Shalom” explores, through the lyrics and tradition of Yemenite, Sephardic and Klezmer songs from antiquity to present day (2,700 years of history), the urgent need for a debate over the issue of memory and its authenticity. It does so through the songs and lyrics of life of the Shabbat, the paramount Jewish holiday, which borders time and the mystery of Creation. During the concert, Delilah Gutman will sing the lyrics and the word as Refael Negri plays the violin.
The event, to be hosted at the Synagogue of Casale Monferrato, will be broadcast live on the Institute’s page and on its YouTube and Facebook channels, is under the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Jewish Community of Istanbul.
