Yesterday, 22 February, Italy’s Embassy in Teheran, along with the local ITA (Italian Trade Agency) office, hosted a virtual business forum on the opportunities Iran can offer to Italian businesses as regards pharmaceutics, medical devices, dentistry equipment and food supplements.

For the occasion, Italy’s Ambassador to Teheran, Mr Giuseppe Perrone, pointed out that the initiative falls within the ongoing and fruitful bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare: some recent, significant examples include Italy’s donation of 2.25 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to Iran and collaboration initiatives between hospitals and research centres of the two countries.

The event was attended by more than 100 Italian and Iranian companies and by the bilateral Chambers of Commerce of Rome and Teheran.

The forum also unveiled unexplored opportunities for further developing bilateral relations in the healthcare sector; the data on exports was particularly significant, seen as Italy exported to Iran medical equipment and products worth 40 million Euros, compared with Germany’s overall 200 million Euros. In addition, the forum highlighted the current opportunities to be seized, not only in terms of direct exportation, but also in terms of business agreements and joint ventures. Indeed, ITA announced it is going select the group of Italian enterprises that will take part in IranHealth, the major event of the industry of medical devices, dentistry equipment and pharmaceutics, to be held in Teheran from 23 to 26 May 2022.
