Cologne, conference on Dante and The Divine Comedy

Colonia, conferenza su Dante e Divina Commedia
Colonia, conferenza su Dante e Divina Commedia

The Italian Cultural Institute of Cologne, in collaboration with the Association Friends of the Institute, has organised a conference on Dante and The Divine Comedy. The cultural event “Dantes Welt und Dantes ich: La Divina Commedia” will be held at the Institute on 9 March (at 7 p m.). The speaker will be Paul Geyer, Director of the Department of Romanistics at the University of Bonn.

The initiative is part of the celebrations for the Year of Dante. Geyer’s talk aims to explore the internal contradictions of The Divine Comedy (1307-1321). Starting from the description of Dante’s world, he will illustrate the unity of  The Divine Comedy through the categories of space and time. The world of Dante’s Divine Comedy is, in fact, united and unique in its being a metaphor for existence and transcendence at the same time, and it is this unity that characterises and distinguishes Dante’s masterpiece.

The conference will be held in German. Reservation required.
