The Italian Embassy in San Marino organized in its Embassy a solo exhibition of Mimmo Jodice, one of Italy’s star photographers. The exhibition, curated by Maria Giovanna Fadiga, will open with guided tours by appointment from 9 March to 28 April. The exhibition will subsequently go on tour on the international circuit.
Ever since the ’60s Jodice, after a multitude of experiences with creative photography and conceptual experimentation, became a key player in the cultural debate that led to the growth first and then to the success and recognition of this form of expression, also internationally. His artistic horizon spans across mythological figures – such as Venus, Cupid and Psyche, Hebe, Daedalus, and Icarus – but also includes historical figures like Napoleon. Classicism is immortalized in the portraits that evolve from forms, lights, and poetics in a suggestive decoupling of images through a lofty critical interpretation of the value of modeling.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Secretariat for Culture of the Cultural Institute of San Marino, it was possible the enrich the exhibition with the proof of the presence of Neoclassicism in San Marino, which had its apex in the construction of the basilica dedicated to Saint Marinus.
