The Italian Embassy in Sarajevo was among the guests of honour at the “Conference on Climate Action in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, held in the Parliamentary Assembly and organised alongside UNDP. Delivering his speech, Italy’s Ambassador in Sarajevo, Marco Di Ruzza, pointed out that our country, together with the United Kingdom, chaired last year’s Climate Conference and that Milan hosted the Pre-Cop26 and the Youth4Climate event.

Regarding the engagement of the Italian Embassy in Bosnia-Herzegovina in this field, Mr Di Ruzza stressed the importance of the “Green Network” (Zelena Mreza), an initiative launched by our Diplomatic Mission in 2021 through spontaneous and informal forms of coordination with civil society environmental protection organisations (especially youth activism groups), which was then gradually organised thanks to the support of the Farnesina and the partnership with UNDP.

The “Green Network” features a large and growing number of members (currently a good 22 NGOs, two informal groups and 11 individual activists) and pursues an ambitious project. Its main goals are to raise the awareness of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s authorities and society as to the relevance of environmental issues, in order to implement environment-friendly measures that, at the local level, can concretely contribute to the green transition, to combating climate change and to further protecting and promoting the country’s natural beauties.
