On 8 July 2022 the Embassy of Italy in the Hague organised the National Day of Italy at Floriade in the Dutch city of Almere. Floriade is the international horticulture exhibition.
The activities organised for the event, entitled “Italy and flowers: from ancient Rome to the exploration of space”, were inspired by the “continuity and innovation” theme that characterises the Italian Embassy’s approach to public diplomacy in the Netherlands.
They traced a pathway that started from the importance of flowers in Ancient Romeand continued through the Middle Ages and on to an original approach to the Divine Comedy. The path then led to aeronautical and space technology, with reference to its uses to monitor the environment, bodies of water and various sectors of agriculture.
Representatives of the Dutch and Italian business communities attended and spoke at the event.
