On 2 and 3 September the Italian Embassy in Beijing hosted “ChinaHUB”, the forum organised by The European House-Ambrosetti alongside the Embassy, concurrently with the 48th edition of the forum “Intelligence on the World, Europe and Italy”, which takes place every year at Villa d’Este, Cernobbio.
ChinaHUB stems from an agreement between the Farnesina and Ambrosetti, through which selected diplomatic offices linked via video conference with the Forum in Cernobbio. Distinguished experts and leaders of the Chinese economic and academic spheres, as well as members of the foreign entrepreneurial and diplomatic community (which the Embassy hosted) got to learn more about the state and future of the Chinese economy, about the challenges foreign companies in China must face and about the geopolitical scenarios in the Asia-Pacific region. They were also able to talk with the speakers in Cernobbio.
At the invitation of the Italian Ambassador in Beijing, Luca Ferrari, the American Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, and the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and President of BASF China, Joerg Wuttke, attended ChinaHUB.
During the two-day event in Beijing, discussions focused on the main challenges for the Chinese economy, including the impact of the pandemic countermeasures still in force, the downsizing of the real estate sector and global uncertainty factors, including vulnerabilities in supply chains and high inflation (energy prices in particular). On the other hand, the debate on geopolitical challenges in the Asia-Pacific region focused on the dynamics of the China-United States relations, with particular reference to competition in four spheres: geopolitical, economic, technological-scientific and values.
The ChinaHUB event was organised alongside Santoni, Maserati and Pirelli, with the support of Agenzia-ICE (Italian Trade Agency), of the China Development Institute, of the Center for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University and of Transcent Consulting.
