On the occasion of the XXII Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute in Mexico City organized the Award Ceremony of the 5th edition of “M’illumino d’immenso. International award for the best translation of Italian poetry into Spanish.”
Before the ceremony, poets and translators Fabio Morábito, Elisa Díaz Castelo and Paula Abramo engaged in a conversation. The “M’illumino d’immenso” award aims at promoting the translation and dissemination of both Italian and Italian-Swiss poetry in Spanish-speaking countries. It was organized by poets Vanni Bianconi (Switzerland), Fabio Morábito (Mexico), and Barbara Bertoni (Italy), Director of the Trādūxit Laboratory, with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Mexico City and the Swiss Embassy in Mexico, and under the patronage of Biblioteche di Roma [Rome’s Public Libraries].
The international jury, made up of poets and translators, received the works of 149 contestants from 17 countries. The prize for the best translation of the poems “Ci fosse stato il tempo” by the Italian poet Franco Marcoaldi, and “Di notte, nel bosco” by the Swiss-Italian poet Donata Berra, was awarded to Isabel Teresa García Casalta (Venezuela). The winner receives EUR 500, one-week accommodation at La Casa delle Traduzioni [The House of Translations] offered by Biblioteche di Roma, an annual subscription to Ametli (Mexican Association of Literary Translators), and the publication of her translations in Italian, Mexican, Swiss and Spanish literary magazines.
