To mark All Souls’ Day, the Ambassador of Italy in New Delhi, Vincenzo De Luca, and the Consul General in Mumbai, Alessandro De Masi, attended together with  the Italian community in Mumbai a the Holy Mass commemorating the Italian military internees who died in India during World War II.

“Here is where our compatriots are buried. They were often very young, all torn from their families and their beloved by the world conflict. It is our responsibility  to remember them and commemorate their memory while at the same time remembering the active and leading role that our forces are playing today to ensure national security and carry out peacekeeping missions,” said Ambassador De Luca during his speech at the memorial.

“The closeness shown by the Italian community that has been gathering here on 2 November for more than 60 years is moving,” said Consul General De Masi. “To the families, to the descendants of these young men who are no longer, we can say that their loved ones are not alone in India and that Italy is here and does not forget their sacrifice.
