Mountaineering and the effects of climate change are the issues dealt with by the “Italian Routes” photography exhibition organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; it has been touring the world since 2021 and has now arrived at the Harabel Exhibition Space in Albania thanks to the Tirana Italian Cultural Institute.
The scope of the exhibition is to inform an international audience of the great Italian tradition linked to mountain culture and mountaineering as a way to understand mountain territories, the values that this type of environment holds, the importance of environmental awareness in how we access natural habitats and the care devoted by Italy to defending ecosystems.
A section dedicated to well-known mountaineer and local photographer, Fation Plaku was mounted for the Albanian leg of the tour. The Plaku photographs in this exhibition were created as part of the Mëmëdheu (Homeland) – Albanian hidden gems project, and were published in two books that contain pictures of the most beautiful Albanian landscapes. The exhibition, curated by Fabiano Ventura and presented in association with Harabel Contemporary Art Platform, can be visited up to 20 January 2023.
