As part of its promotional programme, the Italian Embassy in Dar es Salaam participated in the Swahili Fashion Week with the Italian stylists Noor Design and Bread and Butter. These two Italian brands already have a structured presence in Tanzania thanks to boutiques in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
The event, which was held in Dar es Salaam from 2 to 4 December 2022, is the second most important event in Africa. There were 50 stylists from all over the world. On the sidelines of the Swahili Fashion Week there was the presentation of the Italian machinery for leather, with a special focus on leather footwear and goods. Toscana Macchine Calzature (TMC) provided an important contribution to the side event, with presentations on the manufacture of high value-added leather products.
In commenting on the event, Ambassador Marco Lombardi pointed out that “considering that 70% of the population in Tanzania is between 12 and 25 years old and that it is estimated that in the next 20 years the population will increase from the current 60 million to 120 million people, it seems appropriate to increase Italy’s promotional activities also in the fashion industry, since this audience looks to our products of excellence with great interest and sympathy.”
