Quality and sustainability: such are the keywords of the 2023 Italian Design Day in Latvia, organised for 9 March by the Italian Embassy together with Riga Technical University (RTU). The Ambassador of Italy in Riga, Alessandro Monti, remarked that “the Italian Design Day brings to Latvia two success stories that show that Italian creativity knows how to reinvent itself continuously, without denying its historical roots”, and that “Made in Italy is the most effective tool to portray today’s Italy abroad: its dynamism, inclusiveness, attention to the environment and to the new generations”.

The event will begin with the inauguration of the “Light on Made in Italy” exhibition, created by the prestigious magazine Interni for the network of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: a story told through images illustrating the excellence of the design sector in the name of sustainability and innovation. The floor will then go to the “design ambassadors” Jacopo Costanzo, Gabriele Corbo and Michele Trebbi, from the WAR – Warehouse of Architecture and Research studio in Rome, listed by the magazine Platform as one of the fifty best Under 40 architecture and design studios in Italy, who will exchange views with colleagues and students from Riga.

Both initiatives will take place at the new RTU campus. RTU is Latvia’s leading university in terms of student numbers and a centre of scientific research and technological innovation excellence at European level. The Italian Embassy and RTU have long been working together to promote academic exchanges with Italy and foster knowledge of the Italian language in the STEM fields.
