Italian Screens

The Italian Cultural Institute of Tirana organises the film festival “Italian Screens – The New Italian Cinema” in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, the Municipality of Tirana and the Albanian National Centre of Cinematography. From 28 to 30 March, after stops in Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, New Delhi and Berlin, the festival brings to Albanian audiences four films selected among the candidates for the David di Donatello awards.

The four films will be shown at the Millennium cinema  in Tirana, starting with “Ariaferma” in Italian with English subtitles. Leonardo Di Costanzo’s film won the award for best screenplay and for best leading actor, Silvio Orlando. The other three films shown will be “I fratelli De Filippo” by Sergio Rubini, a film that retraces the story of the two great authors of Neapolitan theatre; “Il materiale emotivo” by Sergio Castellitto, based on a screenplay by Ettore Scola and “Freaks Out” by Gabriele Mainetti, a magical and surreal tale in occupied Rome in 1943.

“Italian Screens” is promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, by Cinecittà for the Cinema and Audiovisual Directorate General (DGCA) of the Ministry of Culture and the Italian Film Academy – David di Donatello Awards. The initiative is part of a broader project to deepen cultural relations between Italy and Albania, organised by Cinecittà for the DGCA of the Ministry of Culture in view of encouraging opportunities for meetings between producers, distributors and creatives from both countries.
