During his mission to Lviv, Italian Ambassador Pier Francesco Zazo visited a number of the most important Ukrainian centres for the treatment of war wounded: “Halychyna”, “Superhumans”, and “Unbroken”.

“Italy, with its excellence in the health sector, is beginning an active collaboration for the training of Ukrainian specialists and for the supply of expert medical personnel who can provide important help in the treatment and rehabilitation of those who have suffered physical and psychological damage as a result of the conflict”, said the Ambassador.

“The action of our Foreign Affairs and Health Ministries provides Italy with yet another way of showing concrete solidarity towards the Ukrainian population. Without factoring in the psychological damage, it is estimated that over ten thousand people have suffered amputations due to the violence of the war. This tragedy is growing steadily: in the hope that the Russian aggressors will soon stop their attacks and that weapons may be silenced as soon as possible, a complex picture is nonetheless emerging regarding the management of the consequences of the conflict on the collective health of Ukrainians. Italy intends to give its full support by providing the experience and expertise of Italian centres of excellence in the field of prostheses, reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation, through collaborations with centres such as the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, the Santa Lucia Foundation, the Maria Adelaide Orthopaedic Institute, the Bambino Gesù Paediatric Hospital and the Inail Prosthesis Centre in Budrio”.
