Ambassador Alberti inaugurates solar power plant in Kazakhstan

Ambasciatore Alberti inaugura impianto solare in Kazakistan

The Italian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Marco Alberti, took part in the inauguration of the 50 MW solar power plant built in Shaulder, in the Turkistan Region, by Eni Plenitude through its subsidiary Arm Wind, which is active in the generation of energy from renewable sources. The plant is Eni’s first solar power project in the country and confirms the Company’s commitment to diversifying its investments in Kazakhstan, accompanying the country’s ecological transition.

The new power plant occupies an area of 100 hectares, in which more than 93,000 solar panels and an electrical substation connected to the grid via a 7.5-kilometre power transmission line are located. The solar power plant enriches and completes Eni Plenitude’s investment portfolio in the country, which also includes the Badamsha 1 & 2 wind farms (96 MW in total), built by Arm Wind, already in operation in the Aktobe Region.

“Being here today, just a few days after the conclusion of Climate Week in New York”, Ambassador Alberti commented, “is a source of great satisfaction. This power plant is a double promise fulfilled: the one made by Italy to prioritise the ecological transition, towards a more sustainable future, and that of Eni Plenitude Arm Wind to accompany the country towards carbon neutrality by 2060”.

Also present at the inaugural ceremony was the Governor of the Region of Turkistan, Darkhan Satybaldy, with whom the Ambassador held a meeting to explore the potential of the power plant, also in terms of social and environmental benefits, and to explore opportunities for other Italian investments in the Region, one of the most dynamic in the country. In the framework of a strengthened public-private cooperation, the Embassy is also verifying, together with the local authorities, the possibility of other projects to be implemented in the same Region, with the involvement of qualified Italian and Kazakh interlocutors.

“Italy, as Minister Tajani also recalled during his recent visit to Kazakhstan”, the Ambassador concluded, “wants to be a strategic partner of Kazakhstan. We are working to achieve this goal; today’s inauguration confirms Eni’s commitment in Kazakhstan and the intention of the Italian Economic System to move in this direction”.
