The Promoting Committee, composed of Ambassador Stefano Stefanini and Mr. Livio Vanghetti, has been on a mission to Warsaw for the candidacy of Rome to host Expo 2030.

As part of the meetings organised by the Embassy, at the Italian Cultural Institute, in the presence of a selected audience of journalists, think tanks and civil servants from a number of ministries, a panel on “The geopolitics of EXPOs” was held. The debate, introduced by the Italian Ambassador to Poland Luca Franchetti Pardo, and moderated by Małgorzata Bonikowska, President of the “Centre for International Relations”, was attended by Ambassador Stefanini, Mr. Vanghetti and Professor Katarzyna Pisarska, Director of the Warsaw Security Forum, who explained in detail the contents of Rome’s candidacy, as well as the geopolitical dynamics related to the support of likeminded partners for the only candidacy of an EU member state and a country that has supported Ukraine from the outset.

From the discussion, in which the audience also actively participated, a clear perception emerged that in Polish civil society, the main messages of this candidacy and the aforementioned geopolitical motivations, as well as the need to keep Europe as a centre of gravity also to guarantee a geographical turnover (after EXPO 2020 Dubai and the already assigned one in Osaka in 2025), have been widely accepted.

A meeting took place at the Embassy between the delegation of the Promoting Committee and the Italian economic system present in Poland, which was an opportunity to receive confirmation of the awareness of the Italian-Polish business associations, the Italian Trade Agency – ICE and the main Italian companies active in the area of strategic importance for Italy of the Eternal City’s candidacy for Expo 2030.

In collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Warsaw, the delegation was also able to come into contact with influential parliamentary circles, a decisive opportunity to present not only the highlights of Rome’s candidacy, but also the importance that supporting the Eternal City could have to Poland.
