The Italian Embassy in Prague, together with the Italian Cultural Institute, has launched the Central European festival of contemporary Italian cinema MittelCinemaFest, now in its 11th edition in the Czech Republic, with a series of films on screen from 30 November to 6 December.

Italian Ambassador Mauro Marsili remarked on the networking capacity of the Italian Economic System, as the initiative is made possible thanks to a collaboration between Cinecittà and the Italian Embassies and Cultural Institutes in Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary), and at the local level thanks to the support of the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Lucerna cinema, as well as distribution companies, a number of Italian business groups operating in the country and several media partners. “I would like to thank all those who contributed to making this event possible”, added Marsili, “I am certain that this year’s MittelCinemaFest will continue to grow, offering the very best that the Italian film industry has to offer”.

“Italian cinema”, stressed the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Vito De Bellis, “has always been capable of eliciting great emotions. Moreover, the films presented this year boast exceptional casts, confirming the immense value of actors who are sometimes already well known to the local audience: from Toni Servillo to Valerio Mastrandrea to Alba Rohrwacher and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, as well as Paola Cortellesi, just to name a few”.

The festival will feature nine films, including a number of interesting debut films. As in recent years, this edition will also feature a small section dedicated to some of the great masters of Italian art, such as Borromini, Bernini and Caravaggio.

The festival will end on 6 December with the screening of The First Day of My Life by Paolo Genovese.
