In spite of Russian aggression, the education cycle is starting again in Ukraine. The Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, officially opened the school year at the ‘Dante Alighieri’ School in Kiev, an institute that – with its over one thousand students – spans the primary, middle and high school cycle and boasts a long tradition of teaching Italian language and culture. For the occasion, 200 copies of the children’s book Pimpa viaggia in Italia were donated to the school library, in Italian but also in Ukrainian, thanks to the translation made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
‘Education and culture are fundamental for building bridges between our nations and promoting shared values of peace and cooperation,’ the Ambassador said during the ceremony. He added: ‘You young people are an extraordinary symbol of resilience, as you continue to study, to learn, to dream of a better future even in the current, and so difficult, situation. He also emphasized that Italy is proactively committed to strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, also to allow lessons to be held safely and thus ensure a future for the new generations.
In the afternoon, the Italian Embassy took part in the launch of courses at the Italian Studies Centre at the”Taras Shevchenko” University of Kiev, to fully encourage the young people starting their philological study of the Italian language today.
