A ceremony was held today at the Farnesina to deposit the Instrument of Accession of the Republic of Lithuania to the Treaty establishing the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR), for which the Italian Government is the depositary. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Lithuania to Italy, Dalia Kreivienė, and the Head of the Service for Legal Affairs, Diplomatic Disputes and International Agreements, Minister Plenipotentiary Stefano Zanini.
With this new accession, EUROGENDFOR now has eight Member States: the five founding countries – Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Portugal – have been joined by Romania, Poland and Lithuania. Enlargement further strengthens EUROGENDFOR and its ability to contribute to international crisis management and stabilisation efforts, through the maintenance and restoration of public order and security, border control, the fight against crime and the training of local police forces.
