To mark the third edition of Italian Sport Day Around the World, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Sport and Youth, the Embassy of Italy in Prague and the Italian Cultural Institute organised the event ‘Beyond the medal: sport as a school of resilience and inclusion.’

The guest at the event was Federico Maesano, a former rugby player with Unione Rugby Capitolina, who was involved in an accident in March 2024 that left him with a spinal cord injury. Following his hospitalisation and a long period of rehabilitation, the athlete has continued to nurture his relationship with sport, setting himself new goals, including in the Paralympic arena.

As Ambassador Alessandro Gaudiano pointed out: “Sport is not just about competition and results, but also about discipline, testing one’s limits and the ability to cope with change. Sports can also play a tangible role in fostering the inclusion of people with disabilities, promoting their independence, participation and full integration into social life”.

The initiative was organised by the Embassy of Italy in Prague as part of a series of activities aimed at promoting Italian sport and its educational and social role.
