The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, is organising an event on 25 May entitled “An American Manzoni: The New Translation of I Promessi Sposi”, a debate between Michael Moore, translator and interpreter of Italian texts, and Armando Maggi, lecturer and author of a number of volumes and essays on Renaissance, Baroque and modern culture.
During the event, Michael Moore will speak about his new translation of Manzoni’s masterpiece, to which he has devoted several years, with the aim of offering a more modern reading of this famous historical novel. The initiative, organised on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Alessandro Manzoni’s death, seeks to underline the author’s extraordinary relevance within Italian culture and stress how his masterpiece, written in 1821, can still be considered today as a means to further our knowledge of Italy.
