A century of Italian ice-cream history in the Netherlands is encapsulated in the photo exhibition “La Dolce Invasione” (“The Sweet Invasion”), as promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam.
One hundred years ago, the first Italian ice-cream makers arrived in the Netherlands from Veneto and Tuscany. Since then, Italian ice-cream has become an integral part of Dutch culture.
The exhibition focuses on both past and present and offers a special look at the current third and fourth generation of Italian ice-cream makers in the country.
Curating the historical section of the exhibition is Daniela Tasca, who, over the years, has collected dozens of photographs and historical documents from public and private archives.
Claudia Zanin, on the other hand, is in charge of the “Stories”, with text and image portraits of seven Italian ice-cream makers, as well as testimonies from the loyal customers of Zammatteo, her family’s historic ice-cream parlour.
