Luca Tagliaretti was appointed the first Executive Director of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre at today’s Board meeting in Athens.
The Italian candidate, formerly head of the European Central Bank’s International Counterfeit Deterrence Centre and Deputy Executive Director of the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA) since 2020, has garnered widespread support from the Member States and the European Commission.
“We are happy that the first Executive Director of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre is Italian. This is a key position within the new Centre based in Bucharest, which is responsible for the European-level strengthening of infrastructural and intangible capabilities in a strategic area such as cybersecurity, which confirms Italy’s role in this sector. This is why the entire government has strongly supported Tagliaretti’s candidacy,” commented Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani.
Today’s nomination concludes a competitive selection process that lasted over a year, with an intense support campaign carried out in close cooperation between all State bodies, in particular between the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union and the National Cybersecurity Agency.
