Palazzo Farnesina and the origins of the EU – a travelling exhibition

“At the origins of the European Union – architecture and art for Palazzo Farnesina” is the title of a travelling exhibition running from 16 October to 6 November 2014 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm. The exhibition will then move to the Italian Embassy in Berlin, where it will remain until 4 December, and on to the “Chifte Hamam” National Gallery in Skopje, Macedonia, from 11 December until 21 January 2015.

Art and architecture in Italy during the European Union’s early years

As part of the events marking the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the exhibition provides an insight to the artistic and architectural debate in Italy in the years when the European Union was first conceived. It covers the 30-plus years of works on the building that eventually become the home of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the focus on the artists and architects involved in creating the building in the 1950s and ’60s.
