Growth Diplomacy – Cuba presents itself to Italy, events in Rome and Milan

UNIDO ITPO Italy and ICE, with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), have joined forces with the Embassy of Cuba in Rome toorganise presentations on new legislation on foreign investments and business opportunities in Cuba. The two events, one on 30 June in Rome and another on July1st in Milan, will be held in conjunction with a visit to Italy by Cuban Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade and InvestmentsIleana Nunez Mordoche.


Monday at the Farnesina


The first of these events is to take place at the Foreign Ministry in Rome, with participants to include MFA Director General for Globalisation Luigi Marras, who will introduce the sessions along with Cuban AmbassadorMilagros Carina Soto; MISE Director General for Internationalisation Policies and Exchanges Promotion Giuseppe Tripoli;Secretary General of IILA Giorgio Malfatti di Monte Tretto; and UNIDO ITPA Italy DirectorDiana Battaggia, who will moderate. The presentation of Cuba’s newpolicies on foreign investments will fall to Mrs.Nunez Mordoche. A discussion will follow on the Cuban national context for foreign investments and the legislative framework for the special area of the Mariel Development Project, and of business opportunities in specific sectors of the Cuban economy.


Priority sectors


Key sectors will include tourism, industry, renewable energy and mining. The event will be followed by the launch of the 32nd edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV). In Milan, where the sessions will be opened by Deputy Minister for Economic Development Carlo Calenda. Discussion topics will be the same as those of Rome, with the addition of others: from Cuba’s new direction and opportunities for Italian businesses, of which President of ICE Riccardo Maria Monti will speak, to the Italian Cooperation’s financial instrument for setting up joint ventures in Cuba.
