Once again this year, the Embassy of Italy in Doha is taking part in the Katara European Jazz Festival, held from 5 to 8 December in Doha along the waterfront of the Katara Cultural Village.
Now in its eighth edition, the festival – which is organised by the Katara Cultural Village Foundation in collaboration with the EUNIC cluster – aims to strengthen cultural ties between Qatar and Europe, not only for jazz enthusiasts, but also for those who wish to open up to new musical genres and national traditions.
Representing Italy for 2024 is the band Collettivo Immaginario joined by vocalist Paola Gladys. Collettivo Immaginario is trio formed by Alberto Lincetto (keyboard), Nicolò Masetto (electric bass) and Tommaso Cappellato (percussion) that brings its funk-infused jazz music all over the world with concerts and performances.
During the press conference, Italian Ambassador Paolo Toschi emphasised the cultural value of the festival and expressed enthusiasm for Italy’s participation in such an important music event since its very first edition. “It is a pleasure for us, as the Embassy of Italy, to participate once again in the Katara European Jazz Festival. We believe that art is an instrument for building bridges between peoples and cultures: every year, thanks to this event, Qatar and Europe are brought closer and closer through music. Italy’s contribution to this edition of the Jazz Festival features the band Collettivo Immaginario, accompanied by vocalist Paola Gladys, whose repertoire blends Italian tradition, jazz, and sounds from the Americas and Africa.”
