We would like to remind all colleagues intending to operate in Egypt that they must request specific temporary accreditation from the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Rome:
https://ambilcairo.esteri.it/it/news/sala-stampa/accreditamento-temporaneo/.
For journalists interested in reaching the Rafah crossing, we would also like to point out that the entire Sinai Peninsula is a specially administered military zone. Passage through the tunnels leading to Sinai is strictly monitored by the Egyptian police and army, who require specific permits for journalists.
To date, Egyptian authorities have not announced an opening date for accessing the Rafah crossing, nor have they indicated how it will be managed or whether journalists will be allowed to enter. They have confirmed, however, that the only way for journalists – as well as official delegations with accompanying press – to reach the crossing will be to join any international “Press Tours” organized by the International Press Centre in Cairo. The Embassy has requested that the Press Centre inform it as soon as possible of any such tours.
We urge all journalists not to travel to Egypt for work purposes with a tourist visa and, in any case, to register on the Foreign Ministry’s website “Viaggiare Sicuri”.
