Minister Tajani and the Commanding General of the Guardia di Finanza, Gen. De Gennaro, inaugurate the new Guardia di Finanza facilities at the Farnesina

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, today inaugurated, together with the Commanding General of the Guardia di Finanza, Gen. C.A. Andrea De Gennaro, the new Guardia di Finanza facilities located within the Farnesina.

“Today we celebrate a historic and strategic form of cooperation in which I have always strongly believed. Thanks to the essential contribution of the Guardia di Finanza – which I wished to involve, from the very beginning of my term, also in the inspections of our Missions abroad – the Italian Foreign Ministry is at the forefront of efforts to combat corruption and maladministration. We also work closely together on the most complex dossiers relating to international police cooperation in the economic and financial domains,” Minister Tajani stated.

Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Guardia di Finanza at the Farnesina dates back to March 1942, when the Corps began providing support to the Diplomatic Protocol. Over the years, this cooperation has steadily expanded to include an increasingly wide and diverse range of activities, characterised by a continuous and highly qualified presence, ultimately extending to support for legal and security diplomacy. The new facility inaugurated today will therefore host the recently established Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, which will continue to perform key tasks in support of the Diplomatic Protocol of the Italian Republic and the Diplomatic Protocol of the Foreign Ministry, as well as a range of activities supporting the Ministry’s institutional functions.
