Tajani holds talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi: “De-escalation in the crisis with Iran”

Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani held a telephone conversation today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr Al Busaidi, also in the wake of yesterday’s visit by the President of the Council of Ministers to Muscat.

The two Ministers first addressed the situation in Iran and the recent mission of Minister Al Busaidi to Tehran, where he met President Pezeshkian. Minister Tajani expressed appreciation for the constructive role played by Oman in the ongoing crisis, voicing the hope that the Sultanate’s mediation — which maintains positive dialogue with both Washington and Tehran — could lead to de-escalation, the opening of new channels of dialogue and prospects for détente, including with regard to the Iranian nuclear dossier, to the benefit of regional security and stability.

Tajani and Al Busaidi also discussed the latest developments in Gaza. Italy and Oman are both key humanitarian actors in the Strip. Tajani reiterated Italy’s commitment to the reconstruction of Gaza and to the training of the Palestinian leadership.

The two Ministers then reviewed the excellent state of bilateral relations, following the visit of the President of the Council of Ministers to the Sultanate, during which a Joint Declaration was signed to further enhance cooperation across all sectors, particularly in trade, investment and industry. Tajani and Al Busaidi agreed to work closely together to implement these commitments, notably through the elaboration of an Action Plan (2026–2030) and the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the bilateral Strategic Dialogue. As of September 2025, Italy–Oman trade stood at EUR 483 million (+5.9% year on year), driven primarily by Italian exports, which reached EUR 329 million (+9%).
