Ambasciatore Guariglia
Ambasciatore Guariglia

At the request of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral consultation meeting today in Bern with Alexandre Fasel, Secretary of State of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The two diplomats first discussed the Crans-Montana tragedy, which severely affected Italy and Switzerland. During the meeting, they emphasized the efforts of both countries to rescue and treat the injured, provide assistance to their families, and ensure that responsibility is established and justice is served. In this regard, Secretary General Guariglia and Secretary of State Fasel acknowledged the start of constructive collaboration between the judicial authorities of the two countries and the solution identified following meetings between President Parmelin, President Mattarella, Prime Minister Meloni, and Foreign Minister Tajani. This solution also aims to ensure that the costs of hospitalization and treatment for our young compatriots injured in the fire at the Bar Le Constellation do not burden their families or the Italian state.

They also reviewed the excellent state of bilateral collaboration between the two countries, particularly on cross-border issues, agreements recently ratified or in the process of being ratified by the two Parliaments, including those on gas supplies and remote working for cross-border workers. Secretary General Guariglia and Secretary of State Fasel also emphasized the many initiatives jointly promoted in recent years by Foreign Minister Tajani and Foreign Minister Cassis, including the Joint Declaration on Ukraine, the Conference on Italophonia, and the two Ministers’ participation in Diplomacy Day and their respective Ambassadors’ Conferences, which have given great momentum to relations between the two countries.
